Wine and Champagne Gifts Norway

This is one of the most common questions our international guests ask us.

In Norway, the sale of alcohol is regulated by strict government policy, and not everyone can sell alcohol. To sell alcohol, one typically needs a specific license or permit issued by the authorities. These licenses are usually granted to establishments such as restaurants, bars, hotels, and liquor stores (Vinmonopolet), and they must adhere to strict rules for the sale and distribution of alcohol. You can buy wine or champagne from Vinmonopolet.

In Norway, the sale of strong alcoholic beverages, such as spirits, is typically restricted to state-owned stores called Vinmonopolet. Beer and low-alcohol wine can be sold in regular grocery stores, but these stores must also have a license to do so.
